Love To Create is a blog we're in the process of developing to explore the creative process, show our latest creations and concepts, and hopefully spark an online community of creatives adding to the conversation. For the design we wanted to go with something modern that made us of many CSS3 tricks and treats as well as keep it clean and simple so added creations won't be overshadowed by the site itself. The site is sitting on a Wordpress backend to take advantage of their powerful blogging platform.
The Message - a modernization of the Bible written by Eugene Peterson - has been used in many churches and groups for a decade now and to celebrate, NavPress developed a tenth anniversary edition and tasked Jeremy to design it and Disciple Portal to develop it. It is built using .NET backend and a Kentico CMS and is currently still in development and should be launching shortly.
Glen Eyrie is a castle, conference center, and retreat location nestled between the rocks near Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, CO. Jeremy was tasked to make use their color palette while capturing the serene feeling one gets while visiting this amazing location. This design was done for the software development company Disciple Portal out of Castle Rock, CO. The design has been completed, though the site itself is still under development and will be live soon.
The Navigators is a large organization with many different ministries and connections throughout the world. They came to Disciple Portal - whom Jeremy was working with at the time - to re-develop their online systems. We were given the opportunity to design their brand new look and it was decided to start with their staff pages where all the staff will have the ability to create their own online community sharing pictures, blogging, and updating social media. For the design, they wanted something modern, but still organic. The site is built on a .NET backend with a Kentico CMS and is still in the development stage.
Redemption City Church was planted in Westminster, CO in March 2010. They came to Studio Mae and asked us to create a custom designed website with cutting edge graphics and a simple way to manage it. We took those requirements and packaged it into this sleek design with easy navigation. Wordpress was utilized as its content management system.
The Denver based Marrick Medical Finance came to us with a very tall task; build us a custom system including a static site, online portal, and intranet. For the static site we felt the project called for a modern and clean layout with a Joomla CMS backend. The Online Portal (still being developed) is an extremely popular destination for their clients which include thousands of lawyers, hospitals, and doctors, to manage their clients medical treatments. The intranet that we're developing and affectionately calling "Hal 9,000" has grown into a complete business management and client management system complete with an informational widget dashboard, automatically generated reports, client management, and a multitude of other features. We developed it all using PHP/mySQL and the custom design.
Hillside Church International had recently put up their website but needed more content. We made some nice sliding graphics for their front page as well as customized parts for their Wordpress template.
Still one of our favorite designs, Lifeworx Church in Melbourne, Australia asked for a site that would be relevant to their location. We ran with the train concept (a popular form of transportation in the area) and incorporated it with a minimalist style design.
America's Training & Job Placement Centers called on Studio Mae to create an eye catching logo for them that encapsulated the American work ethic but wasn't cheesy like many of the patriotic logos can be.
WhoSent.it, a local startup needed a logo quickly and asked us to put together one that displayed the name prominently and caught the idea of receiving email. It has since been made into t-shirts and is featured on their website.
Despite the dominating digital presence of the interwebs and iPhones, people still like to hold something tangible in their hands. Marrick asked us to address that need and design a brochure for their company. We aimed to keep the outside clean and the inside much bolder to provide a pop of color to grab the reader's attention. They have been extremely pleased with the finished product and said it has really helped with business.
As a brand new church, Redemption City turned to us for ways to advertise their church and direct visitors coming through their venue. We designed advertising flyers, contact cards, informational postcards, and nametags for all of the church staff.
Hillside Church International in Englewood, CO was looking for a fresh perspective on their logo design. We aimed for a modern feel that didn't scream "church" without detracting from who they are.
We wanted a business card that portrayed who we are as a company, so we went with a retro-style logo and font on a leaf shaped die-cut card. We are extremely happy with how it turned out.
The last slide is the original Studio Mae business card, which people still comment on its unique design today.
This logo and tagline were created as concept for an athletic apparel company. We went with a sporty blue and green color scheme, making sure the "A" stood out on its own as a logo yet fit into the whole picture, as well. Can you just picture the logo on a pair of running shoes or a soccerball?
While playing Tecmo Bowl on the original Nintendo Entertainment System, we noticed the end-zone celebration was often a jumping high five. In our desire to resurrect this phenomenon, we designed some t-shirts to help spread the word.
If you'd like to join the Jumping High Five movement, let us know - we have the JH5 brand t-shirt ready to go and hope to have a whole line in the near future. If you have a t-shirt design in mind, contact us and we can make it a product for you.
In March 2010, New Covenant Ministries International called us with the need for a promotional video for their Equip Conference taking place in June. We decided to mix motion graphics with voice-overs using kinetic typography to hammer home the video's message. We even composed an original song to put behind the whole video. You can hear the song by itself below in the audio section.
In July 2009, Studio Mae placed as a finalist in "The Next Big Small Business" contest hosted by Dotster.com. We produced this promo video that mixed nature with media and sprinkled in motion graphics to display what our company was all about. We didn't win the contest, but to our delight, we did place in the top of the honorable mentions list. You can hear the voice over by itself below in the audio section.
Ben & Janet got married in June of 2010, picking a beautiful Colorado day to do so. Asking us to catch the big day on video and put together an edit that captured the day in a fun and creative way we were excited. We decided to capture the big moments (and a few smaller ones) and use music from the ceremony and reception to tie it all together. We also provided them full edit of the ceremony on DVD along with some more extras. This was shot using a Canon HV30 HD camera and edited using Final Cut Pro and Graphics and effects in Adobe After Effects.
Ronny is a dear friend of ours here at Studio Mae. His story is one of courage and self-sacrifice to uplift those around him. His goal to spread joy through the jumping high five is one that we have shared since 1987 and by making this mockumentary, we honored a true American hero. Ronny is available for motivational speaking at your next corporate event.
But seriously, this short mockumentary was made for a film class final at Denver Film School and was played at their year-end student show at the Mayan Theater in Denver, CO. It was received with loud fits of laughter and cheers.
This quick interview was done for a local church for for their Easter service. Partnering with our friend at Faith & Design Studios we shot this with a Canon 60d, audio with a Rhode NTG-2, and edited in Final Cut Pro. We wanted to keep the intimate feel so we used a basic 2 light setup and a and overhead softbox, Tanya did wonderfully telling her story.
While working with Disciple Portal Jeremy was asked to create a motion graphics based video displaying current social media statistics. Using Adobe After Effects for the motion graphics and Logic Pro to compose the tune we were quite happy with how this quick two minute video turned out.

Finding the right piece of music to fit the soundtrack of a video is always a trick. One great way to get the feel you're looking for is to write and record it yourself. For the NCMI Equip video we wanted the music to be thoughtful, yet optimistic - and we feel we did just that. You can view the video in the Film & Video section.

"The Heart Song: The Anthem of Ronny Blair Jumping High Five Extraordinaire!" is probably the longest song title we'll ever have, and quite a complicated title for such a simple song. Writing it for the Ronny Blair short film, we wanted a song that typified Ronny's often misunderstood mission in life and still keep a whimsical feel. You can view "Ronny Blair: Jumping High Five Extraordinaire!" in the Film & Video section.

We recorded this voice over for the Dotster contest video. Our very own Caroline Spingath provided the voice while the music was provided by one of our favorite David Crowder Band songs.

This voice over is for a commercial for Landsdowne Arms, a local Irish Pub who helps host a podcast Studio Mae is producing. The spot was recorded by our own Jeremy Spingath.
